Individual Evaluation

Our film opening was more elaborate than other noirs ive studied like the minimalistic “Kill Bill” (Quentin Tarantino 2005) or dramatic “double Indemnity” (Billy Wilder 1944). Like in contemporary noir the feme fétal follows rules in the costume and being responsible for hero’s downfall even in death, but Matt and Leit’s characters were more underplayed and modern to contrast the male and female roles in noir narrative. Younger actors were used order to capture our target demographic, in the 40’s and 50’s only adults sought out the dark and twisted tales and enjoyed the sexual undertones and unhappy endings but today young people visit the cinema more than adults and enjoy the mature themes and stylistics of noir. The interior location was lit in a very noir style, single source lighting with one small spotlight created vast pools of darkness with stark bright highlights on objects and cast striking shadows. These light effects were used in the classic noirs like detour and the Maltese falcon and we used them to make the scene visually interesting.
Representing younger people/teenagers as criminals isn’t new but it sends a negative message about modern youths and emphasises a negative stereotype, the male characters are represented as low middle to working class with their costume.
Channel 4 and E4 have been known to show interest in independent films so they may be a good distribution company for our production and showings would probably not be in mainstream theatres but at film festivals and small independent cinemas.
Our target demographic for this picture is males between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five, due to our obscurity and low distribution only an active audience would seek out our film like film fans or media students. Technically a person from any social class would be our target audience but working and lower middle class would find it more relatable and therefore enjoyable than an upper class person who likes crime dramas. We did our best to promote interest to this specific demographic with actors of that age group making them more sympathetic and keeping the film fast paced.
The position in socio-economics status of our target audience would be between E and C1 as this is the class we are representing in our film. Mainstreamers and reformers would be the type of consumers we appeal to as mainstreamers make up most of the population we want to get most of them interested in seeing our film, reformers are always looking for something new so our fresh approach to film noir would hopefully get their attention. Teenagers would get a sense of personal identification from our film as we use characters of their age group in the storyline as well as a bit of surveillance because of the extreme lifestyle of the characters make the teenage audience feel normal. Genre communities would be a good audience for our film as it would be of great interest to film noir enthusiasts who haven't seen any good new noir for a few years. Anyone who likes an intellectual puzzle would enjoy our film as the plot is based around a young man trying to get to the bottom of a mystery and proving his innocence.
I was familiar with the main equipment like camera, tripod and microphone but i learned some new editing techniques and colour effects like saturation and jump cutting. my composition and framing of shots has improved since my preliminary exercise as well as a better understanding of the editing program Final Cut Pro
